I have a new nerdy best friend. Her name is Beth Ziesenis from San Diego. She recently published her book, Upgrade to Free: The Best Free & Low-Cost Online Tools & Apps.
I heard Beth speak in Chicago at a November seminar. When was the last time that two hours flew by, and you really wanted to listen for another hour? Then, I read more of her book on the train ride home.
Here are just a few low- to no-cost solutions she introduced that piqued my interest:
LogMeIn (logmein.com): Access your main computer remotely from free to $69/year, depending upon features.
GIMP (gimp.org): Photoshop-like tool…for free.
Poll Everywhere (polleverywhere.com): Want to jazz up your meetings? Use this low-cost polling tool where audience responds via mobile devices. Responses are instantly tabulated for you to broadcast via projector.
Basecamp (basecamphq.com): Project collaboration tool. Promotes transparancy.
The book is available for $10ish from Amazon and Barnes and Noble. Upgrade to Free is very readable, and it is well worth the investment.
